UVA Obstetrics & Gynecology

UVA Obstetrics & Gynecology offers basic ultrasound services in our office for both obstetric and gynecologic services.

Obstetric ultrasounds

Ultrasounds are a regular part of prenatal care. This non-invasive test involves bouncing sound waves off of structures in the body, including unborn babies. The way the waves bounce creates pictures of those structures. Your doctor can use ultrasounds to monitor your baby's growth and development. And, if you want to know, an ultrasound towards the middle of your pregnancy can reveal whether your baby is a girl or a boy!

Ultrasounds are completed in our office to confirm pregnancy. Other ultrasounds are scheduled at an office nearby and the results are made available to your provider.

Gynecologic ultrasounds

Ultrasounds can be used as a diagnostic tool for a variety of gynecologic conditions. An ultrasound might be used to view the uterus, ovaries or other structures within your body. If you need a diagnostic ultrasound, you will be referred to a convenient ultrasound location and the results will be made available to your provider.
